Severe Storm & Tornado Preparation


With the storm warning and tornado watch for the DMV area, we want to remind everyone of the important steps to take in the event of severe weather, including thunderstorms, high winds, or tornado warnings. Your safety is our top priority, and being prepared can make a significant difference.

When a severe storm or tornado warning is issued:

Stay Informed

  • Monitor local weather alerts through TV, or trusted weather apps. Don’t just rely on your mobile device for warnings.
  • Enable emergency alerts on your mobile devices.

Move to a Safe Location

  • If possible, go to the lowest level of the building, with the safest being the lowest level of the garage in your building.
  • Choose an interior room such as a bathroom or closet away from windows and exterior walls if you cannot make it to the garage. Avoid windows and balconies during severe weather.

Prepare an Emergency Kit

We recommend keeping a small emergency kit accessible that includes:
  • Flashlight and extra batteries *do not leave lit candles unattended*
  • Phone charger or portable power bank
  • Bottled water
  • First aid supplies
  • Any necessary medications

Secure Outdoor Items
Please bring inside or secure any balcony or patio items such as furniture, plants, and decorations that could become airborne in strong winds. This is for your property's preservation as well as the safety of the community.

Elevator Use
Avoid using elevators during severe storms or tornado warnings. Use stairwells if you need to relocate within the building.

Management Communication
Building management will send updates via email or resident notification systems if building-specific instructions are necessary.

We encourage all residents to review these precautions and discuss a safety plan with household members in advance. Preparation helps ensure everyone can act quickly and safely if severe weather occurs.
