Severe Storm & Tornado Preparation

With the storm warning and tornado watch for the DMV area, we want to remind everyone of the important steps to take in the event of severe weather, including thunderstorms, high winds, or tornado warnings. Your safety is our top priority, and being prepared can make a significant difference. When a severe storm or tornado warning is issued: Stay Informed Monitor local weather alerts through TV, or trusted weather apps. Don’t just rely on your mobile device for warnings. Enable emergency alerts on your mobile devices. Move to a Safe Location If possible, go to the lowest level of the building, with the safest being the lowest level of the garage in your building. Choose an interior room such as a bathroom or closet away from windows and exterior walls if you cannot make it to the garage. Avoid windows and balconies during severe weather. Prepare an Emergency Kit We recommend keeping a small emergency kit accessible that includes: Flashlight and extra batteries *do not leave lit candles unattended* Phone charger or portable power bank Bottled water First aid supplies Any necessary medications Secure Outdoor Items Please bring inside or secure any balcony or patio items such as furniture, plants, and decorations that could become airborne in strong winds. This is for your property's preservation as well as the safety of the community. Elevator Use Avoid using elevators during severe storms or tornado warnings . Use stairwells if you need to relocate within the building. Management Communication Building management will send updates via email or resident notification systems if building-specific instructions are necessary. In the event of a power outage, please contact PEPCO at 1-877-737-2662. We encourage all residents to review these precautions and discuss a safety plan with household members in advance. Winter Weather Reminders: Staying Safe and Warm During Inclement Weather

As the DMV gears up for the first large snowfall of the year, ensure you're prepared for the snowy conditions and freezing temperatures. 1. Stock up on emergency supplies Check your inventory of essentials, like a first aid kit, water, non-perishables, flashlights, batteries, blankets, etc. 2. Use caution with candles and space heaters Improper use of candles and space heaters can pose a fire hazard. Do not leave them unattended. 3. Set thermostat to at least 60°F Anything lower puts the pipes at risk for freezing. Please do this, even if you will not be home! 4. Open cabinets under sinks This allows heat to circulate around pipes. Set sinks to drip if outside temperatures are below freezing. 5. Keep doors and windows closed Take the extra step to seal the bottom of your doors and windows with towels or blankets to stay warm in the event of a power outage. 6. Report power outages directly to Pepco at (877) 737-2662 7. Consider staying in Snow and icy conditions on the road can create dangerous travel conditions. If you must drive, check road conditions, pack an emergency kit, and clear your vehicle of snow and ice before driving. 8. Keep your phone charged Maintain an open line of communication to stay up to date on the weather and in the event of an emergency. We’ve teamed up with Comfort Cases, an amazing nonprofit that supports kids in the foster care system. What Is the North Pole Express? 🎅 Imagine a sleigh filled with more than just toys—this drive focuses on collecting essential items to bring comfort and joy to children in foster care. The North Pole Express is Morguard’s annual holiday initiative where communities like Fenestra at Rockville Town Square come together to collect donations. For the next four weeks, our lobby will be transformed into a festive drop-off zone for your generous contributions. Who Are We Supporting? 💙 We’re honored to partner with Comfort Cases , a nonprofit founded by Rob Scheer, who himself grew up in the foster care system. Comfort Cases was created to address the heartbreaking reality that many children enter foster care with their belongings in trash bags. Instead, Comfort Cases provides these children with backpacks filled with essentials like pajamas, books, cozy blankets, and hygiene products. These comfort cases are so much more than just backpacks—they are a way to show children they are seen, valued, and cared for. Each item offers a sense of dignity, comfort, and hope, making a positive impact on a child’s life.
